Wrap-Up: The Show Is The Rainbow / Machete Archive / Dads @ The Waiting Room

The Show Is The Rainbow (Darren Keen) made its triumphant return to Omaha last Friday, January 28th. The usual crowd of admirers were on hand to experience Keen’s highly entertaining multimedia experience-of-a-show. And, according to a review you must read by Lazy-i.com, he’s apparently prepping new material for an upcoming eight-month tour that he booked by himself, for himself and for no one else (well, except those usual crowds of admirers).

Omahype contributor Jim Brazda also offered a few words of his own about his first TSITR experience:

When I told people I was going to see The Show is the Rainbow, I got two reactions. Both extreme. But the best was probably this:

“Hopefully he keeps his clothes on. He’s hairy. And he just gets hairier as he goes south.”

We could only hope to be so lucky. But it’s understandable, really… Darren Keen probably burnt off two Whoppers with erratic flailing and dancing that could not be contained on stage. Both ridiculous and refreshing, Keen was as natural amongst the crowd on hand at The Waiting Room as if he were in a basement house party, jumping off couches.

A band called Dads (anyone have info on them? Facebook? Bandcamp? Ugh, MySpace?) and Lincoln’s Machete Archive opened.

After leaving his post as managing editor at an Omaha alt-weekly in 2010, Will decided that everything he does career-wise from now on must involve music or writing and hopefully both. He's currently the editor at Omahype, an amateur cartoonist and also plays in rock 'n' roll bands.
