Last Sunday at What Cheer, cookies, brownies, muffins — all vegan — were sold in an effort to raise funds for the relief effort currently going on in the ravaged parts of Japan. Roughly 30 people brought in homemade baked goods for the 200-plus attendees to devour, according to Isa Chandra, who helped organize the event.

“People were so incredibly generous,” Chandra says, “And so many people stepped in to help when they saw how swamped our volunteers were getting. We could hardly keep up with the demand!”

She added: “Every single item sold including a very crushed blueberry handpie that had been stepped on (it was in plastic wrap…but still).” Now that IS generous.

In all, $3,061 was raised, 100% of which is going to www.shelterbox.org.
