Smashing Pumpkins @ Slowdown
Perhaps in a moment of glorious epiphany — or a fit of pent-up angst — the only thing Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan tweeted about his sold-out Tuesday night show at the Slowdown in Omaha was “COMAHA.” I think the last time I referred to Omaha in such a bratty way I had my hair dyed jet black and pinned the handmade holes in my Jncos together with far too many safety pins. I sported a ZERO t-shirt as I puffed on menthol cigarettes I stole from my mom, all while sitting on the planters in the Old Market sneering my sneeriest sneers. Undoubtedly, this period of my so-called mid-’90s life saw music playing a major role in my everyday swagger and the Smashing Pumpkins were at its center. So thanks, Billy, for helping me relive my “awkward days.” Oh yeah — and where the hell were James Iha and D’arcy Wreztky?
