So I was asked to come to Krug Park in Benson last night to photograph “somebody.” I wasn’t told who it was, but I read between the lines that this was something I needed to see. So I grabbed my gear and headed on down.
Once there, I saw people standing outside the bar looking into a very crowded interior. I guess the secret was out on the secret show. “I’m sorry we’re at capacity … oh you’re shooting? Come on in.” I’ve said it before I’ll say it again: A good Nikon will get you in anywhere.
At this point I see that the featured performer is Conor Oberst. The bar was at capacity (and not one person over if the fire marshal happens to be reading this) and there were no good angles. I asked if I could occupy the bar and was given the OK. The show opened with Phil Schaffert who played a quick set.
When it was his turn, Oberst told the crowd he promised to play this bar if his friend opened it. He made good on that promise and was joined by Orenda Fink, Kaitlyn Maria Filippini and others. The packed crowd inside and outside Krug’s Park hung on every note for an hour and a half.
