February brings thought-provoking docs and panel discussions to Film Streams

Three new documentaries are coming to Film Streams this February, all of which will feature a post-show panel discussion to further explore the dialogues of the films with audience members.

Films include:

“Urbanized” (Wednesday, February 1st) — The third installment of Gary Hustwit’s “design trilogy,” the topic of urban design and planning is tackled by some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, builders and more. The post-show discussion features the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency’s Sloan Dawson, Emerging Terrain founder Anne Trumble, Seventy Five North Revitalization Corp.’s Othello Meadows as well as a TBA representative from the City of Omaha Planning Department.

“Miss Representation” (Tuesday, February 7th) — Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s documentary about the limiting and, well, oftentimes misrepresentative portrayals of women in mainstream media. The post-show discussion will be moderated by Ellie Archer (Women’s Fund of Omaha) and features Nebraska State Senator Tanya Cook, Girls Inc. executive director Roberta Wilhelm and marketing strategist/former Miss Nebraska/Omaha Fashion Week producer Brook Hudson.

“American Teacher” (Wednesday, February 22nd) — From directors Vanessa Roth and Brian McGinn. Through facts, interviews and shadowing the lives of four teachers, this 2011 documentary attempts to tell the collective story of the 3.2 million teachers in American. The post-show discussion will be moderated by UNO’s Dr. Nancy Edick and features Nebraska State Senator Brenda Council and fourth grade teacher Maddie Fennell — who is also the chair of the National Commission on Effective Teachers and 2007 Nebraska Teacher of the Year.
