Omaha Comedy Review – January 2012

Written by Jim Brazda

Above: Rob Delaney, who performs at the Slowdown with OK Party on January 6th.

Looking for an easy New Year’s Resolution? How about you resolve to follow @OmahypeComedy on Twitter? That way when friends ask what your resolution is, you can just tell them you already completed it for this year and puff out your chest while they gawk in amazement at how proactive you are. Actually, they probably won’t be that impressed. But they WILL be impressed when you always know of a great, funny event for an evening out instead of the same-old lame bar with Bon Jovi on the jukebox.

Hope you guys are loving the new Omahype design as much as I am. Particularly the “Comedy” tab up above that allows instant access to all the comedy events and articles we plan on writing about in 2012.

The latter part of 2011 saw the Omaha comedy scene pick up steam as scores of newcomers hit the stage for the first time. Or maybe it just seems that way because that’s when I started to write this column? Either way it doesn’t matter… We’ll be here for 2012 to cover the growth that the Omaha comedy scene is sure to make this year. The goal remains the same: To be an inclusive resource for Omaha’s comedians and comedy fans and supporters.

So if you are doing something in comedy and don’t see your event listed here or elsewhere on the site, I may not know about it. PLEASE keep me up to date by filling out this form, or just emailing my name at gmail.com.

Happy 2012 Everybody! Now get out there and support local comedy!

*January 10th is Skull Sketches. According to Skull Sketch Actress Ariel Ibsen in an interview with Les Femmes Folles, “Skull Sketches is a really fun concept. All of the comedy sketches are written by local writers and at the end of the production the audience gets to vote for their favorite. The actors in the sketch that win then get to take home some of the door money. There’s also some awesome raffles and games – it’s an all around great time.” This month’s sketches were written by Geoff Stienblock, Edward Baye, Paul Dickey and Monty Eich. Acting will be Kendall Gray, Ariel Ibsen, Darrick Silkman, Matt Burke, Luke Socha, Eric Green, Emily Balkovic, Daniel Balkovic, Tracie Mauk, Adam Hogston, CarrieBeth Stickrod, John E. Jones, Nate Schoenfeld, Audra Novak and Nick Rowley.
