FRIDAY, JANUARY 27TH
6 p.m.
- Do you love saving the lives of puppies and kittens? Do you like watching comedy whilst eating pizza and drinking beer? The Pizza Shoppe Collective offers all the above as local improv troupe the Weisenheimers host a benefit for the Nebraska Humane Society. Starts at 6 p.m.; $25 (includes pizza buffet, a New Belgium pint glass and three samples of beer).
7 p.m.
- Urban design nerds: Catch “Urbanized” on opening day at Film Streams, the third installment of Gary Hustwit’s “design trilogy.” $4.50-$9.
8 p.m.
- For fans of contemporary dance: Parsons Dance heads to the Orpheum Theater. $19-$45.
9 p.m.
- Irish-punk: The Killigans headline a show at the Barley Street Tavern in Benson. $5, 21+.
- Just dance: Of course, another installment of GOO (featuring members of The Faint) goes down at House of Loom. Theme is East Coast vs. West Coast. $5 or FREE before 10 p.m., 21+.
- In Lincoln? Catch more DJs/dancing at the sixth installment of TMNT Techno (yes — ninja turtles and all) at the Bourbon Theatre. $5 for 21+, $7 for 18-20.

- Trendy rock: Abandon Kansas headline a show at Slowdown with local support from Flight Metaphor. $7, all ages.
Midnight
- The amazingly awful movie “The Room” once again returns to the Dundee Theatre as the Midnight Movie (Friday only!). $6.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 28th
1 p.m.
- Book smart: The Bookwork at Countryside Village hosts a signing for author Robin Leemann Bonovan’s latest mystery novel, ”Is it Still Murder Even if She Was a Bitch?” 1 p.m., FREE.
3 p.m.
- Arty: Head to Hot Shops Art Center to see the OEA Awards Visual Arts Nominee Showcase before it closes.
4 p.m.
- Keeping it arty: “Placemakers” is currently on view at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. More info. Open till 5 p.m., FREE.
5 p.m.
- Since your already nearby, grab an early dinner at old standby M’s Pub.
7 p.m.
- Sporty: The Creighton men’s basketball team takes on Bradley in some heated MVC action at the CenturyLink Center. $8-$50.
- Meanwhile, Rebecca Lawry of All Young Girls Are Machine Guns hosts the first-ever open mic at Aroma’s Cafe in the Old Market.
7:30 p.m.
- Good cause: “Band Build” goes down at the Waiting Room. It’s a benefit for Habitat for Humanity of Omaha featuring Rock Paper Dynamite, Gus & Call and more local bands. $12, all ages.
9 p.m.
- Head to DP Muller Photography in Benson for a DIY-esque show featuring UUVVWWZ, Howard and the Wayward Little Satan Daughters. It’s also a mini-celebration of the 1-year anniversary of Hear Nebraska. SO GO! $N/A, All ages.
- Wildcard 1: Barley Street Tavern is the spot for the second annual celebration of Scottish Poet Robert Burns, featuring local bands, Scottish food and, er, scotch. $5, 21+.
- Wildcard 2: Catch Chicago folkies The Bears of Blue River plus The Betties, Eli Mardock and more at O’Leaver’s Pub.

- Ella’s, a new gourmet sandwich shop in Benson, recently opened its doors for business. They’ll be open late on weekends (2 a.m.) so they can feed your drunk ass. Oh, and their fries are AMAZING. 6113 Maple Street.

- Bingo (not recommended for granny): Flixx hosts Drag Queen Bingo. First card FREE, $1 each afterwards, 21+
