Public hearing set for Omaha’s Equal Employment Ordinance
A public hearing reintroducing Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray’s Equal Employment Ordinance is set for Tuesday, March 6th at city hall. Under current policy, Omahans who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered are not protected by the city’s equal employment regulations — in short this means, for example, it’s perfectly legal for an employer to discriminate against and fire/refuse to hire a person if he/she is openly gay.
Now we don’t usually get all political, but Omahype supports equal rights for all citizens, regardless of race, color, creed, gender, or sexual orientation. If you do as well, there’s a website called Equal Omaha with tons of info on the subject that makes it easy for you to contact your city council representative and show your support for the Equal Employment Ordinance.
