Working in a variety of mediums, including acrylic, oil, pencil, caran d’ache, collage and mixed media; Tolman will be presenting large canvases and smaller drawings of organic abstractions in which he creates a “complex play” using symbols and mark making techniques.

Inspired by his New Mexican home and his travels to France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Portugal, Tolman’s work is primarily based on direct observation of nature. The importance of place is integral to his process as he immerges all of his senses in the making of these works.

OFF reception: Friday, February 3rd from 6-9 p.m.

About the exhibit (courtesy of the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery)

Painters Ken Heimbuch and Katrina Methot-Swanson, along with sculptor Tom Sitzman, will show new work in “Art: The World Through Our Eyes”

Ken Heimbuch is influenced by what he observes in the natural world. [...] Retired from teaching for 35 years in Westside Community Schools, Heimbuch experiments with transparent glazes and surface textures.

Katrina Methot-Swanson paints with oils and watercolors and is inspired by the people and places around Omaha. She enjoys painting the architecture of downtown and her newest paintings explore her fascination with the reflections in windows. [She] is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, has participated in shows organized by the Kansas and Missouri watercolor societies and has exhibited her work in the Nebraska governor’s mansion.

Tom Sitzman sculpts with steel, creating pieces that allow the viewer to look through openings and consider the way a piece interacts with the space in which it is displayed. For this show, Sitzman will show kinetic balance pieces ranging in size from table-top to free-standing outdoor pieces. A retired physical education teacher, Sitzman has designed and built his own gym equipment and musical instruments.
