21 & Over: Passion Play

According to the New York Times, “Passion Play” is “an epic-length but light-spirited romp through several centuries of religious pageantry, individual morality and global politics.” The playwright, Sara Ruhl, has also written “In the Next Room, or the vibrator play”, for which she did extensive research on the history of women’s sexuality (seen as a disease and hysteria for thousands of years) and was nominated for a Tony Award.

More about “Passion Play”:

From the author of last season’s hit, The Vibrator Play, comes this provocative epic masterpiece of the intersection of belief and the make-believe. A poetic and quirky triptych, Passion Play follows three sets of amateur performers in three different eras as they grapple with the unsettling ways in which the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection becomes a living presence in their own lives. With a dynamic storyline that leaps through time to portray characters like Queen Elizabeth, Hitler and Ronald Reagan, Passion Playis filled with playful and profound moments that will challenge your ideas about religion, politics and the inherent conflicts of human nature.

All 21 & Over performances are free to attend, open to the public and intended for mature audiences.
