Duffy’s Comedy Workshop
You’ve got to make the drive, and will probably suffer with tired, red eyes at work on Tuesday, but Duffy’s Comedy Workshop in Lincoln is usually worth it. And if you’re a comic, you might not even have a job anyways. As the state’s longest-running comedy open mic, Duffy’s has been grinding out comics for more than two decades.
Duffy’s Tavern is at 1412 O Street in Lincoln. That’s about an hour away, so you’ll need to leave Omaha by 9pm to get there for the 10pm start.
For more insight, check out this 2010 article in the Daily Nebraskan.
“I use (Duffy’s Monday nights) to try out new material,” [Richard Reese] said. “The audience is the hardest. They’ll let you know if it’s funny or not.” Darrin Meyer also agrees that the audience at Duffy’s is not an easy crowd to please. He also thinks it’s a great place to test out new material. “It’s one of the toughest rooms in America,” Meyer said. “If you get a laugh there, you know you’re likely to get a laugh at a lot of places.”
Or there is also this 2012 article also in the Daily Nebraskan. Duffy’s really is a favorite topic of UNL journalism students. I’ll see if I can find my 2002 article about Duffy’s someday…
