“Sound Drawings” by Caleb Coppock
“Sound Drawings,” an interactive sound exhibition featuring works by Caleb Coppock, opens this Friday, February 24 at Peerless Gallery. Several of Coppock’s graphite drawings and audio installations will be on view and “in ear,” so to speak. There will even be a custom turntable that’s able to covert graphite into tone (graphite does generate electricity, after all).
New work by Ying Zhu, Matt Carlson and Bethany Kalk will on be on view in the back gallery.
From a press release:
The project enables a tactile participation in sound production. A drawing on paper becomes a hand-rendered sequence. The circular compositions contain electrical and visual information, forming a rotating field of data.
Over time, a lexicon of drawing techniques develops, producing both direct, correlated results and surprising glitches. The graphite speaks an invisible language as drawn lines are translated from their original, hand-made origins.
